What's new in Mates

Latestv0.23.0

Every feature and fix we ship, newest first. Your mates pick up each release on their own.

v0.23.0

Dialogs, command palette and empty states

  • New mate is now two steps: pick a template (Researcher, Builder, Inbox manager, Code reviewer or Blank) with starter instructions, then name it and choose whether it gets email.
  • Edit mate, delete with type-the-name confirmation, new group chat, put to sleep and the publish share sheet all share one dialog style.
  • ⌘K opens a command palette grouped into Mates, Chats, Actions and Pages. Actions run from it: new routine, turn on email for a mate, put a mate to sleep, or go to any page.
  • Every empty list and tab has a small drawing and one next step. The computer and Files tabs say plainly when a mate is asleep or can't be reached, and the usage limit message says what happens next.
v0.22.0

Usage, account and settings

  • Usage shows this month's two meters, spend by mate, spend by day and the most expensive tasks, each with a link to its replay.
  • Account brings your profile, sign-in methods, sessions, appearance and the danger zone into one page.
  • Notifications and defaults: choose emails for routine results, approvals, held mail and a daily digest, plus the default sleep time, approval rule and whether tasks are recorded.
  • Workspace settings: name, default timezone, the email domain's status and a table of published apps with Unpublish. Members and invites are marked as coming soon.
v0.21.0

Activity and Inbox, side by side

  • Activity lists every task on the left and plays the selected one on the right: video, click markers and steps. Filter by mate or show routines only. Links with ?turn= open a task directly.
  • Inbox works the same way: the list on the left with Needs you, All mail and Held filters, the thread on the right with VERIFIED tags and the approval card.
  • Edit an email in a full editor before approving it, and turn on email for a mate without leaving the Inbox.
v0.20.0

Home, Mates and the library pages

  • Home is now Today: a greeting, a quick composer with a mate picker, everything that needs you (approvals, held mail, failed routine runs with Run again), who is working now, what runs next and recent activity.
  • Mates shows a card per mate with its job, live status, computer state, email address and routine and skill counts, with search and filters.
  • Routines is a table with the schedule in words, next run, run history dots, email settings, an on/off switch and Run now. A row opens to show its prompt and last runs. The new routine dialog previews the next three runs and reads a custom cron back in words.
  • Skills opens the selected skill on the right, with checkboxes for which mates have it. Knowledge shows each source as a card, with an Add source dialog for GitHub (deploy key steps included) or a zip upload.
v0.19.0

A block editor for files, skills, routines and email

  • A Notion-style editor with a / menu, drag handles and an inline formatting bar, reading and writing plain markdown.
  • Open .md files and MEMORY.md from the Files tab and edit them in place. Changes save when you click away, or with Save. Knowledge files stay read-only.
  • Skill instructions, routine prompts and the edit-before-approve email body use the same editor.
v0.18.0

Mate panel, full-screen computer and group chat

  • The panel beside a chat has four tabs: Overview, Files, Activity and Settings. Overview shows the live computer with Take control and Sleep or Wake, today's tasks and spend, routines with their next run, skills and a preview of the mate's memory.
  • Activity lists that mate's tasks. Settings edits name, job, instructions, face, email, knowledge and skills in place.
  • The full-screen computer shows who has control and for how long. Esc releases the keyboard first, then closes. Fit to window, and a collapsed step rail.
  • Group chats get a To picker in the composer, a divider when one mate hands work to another, and a panel listing members and their roles.
v0.17.0

Every mate gets an email inbox

  • Each mate can have its own address, like fulfilment-7k2q@agents.usemates.com. Turn it on in Settings.
  • Mail from senders you have not allowed is held until you release it.
  • Outgoing email waits for your approval: approve, edit, don't send, or always allow this recipient.
  • Messages that pass SPF, DKIM and DMARC carry a VERIFIED tag. Forged mail, bounces and autoresponders never reach the mate.
v0.16.0

Replays with video, and published apps

  • Every answer that used the desktop has a replay: a 5 fps recording of the mate's screen with click markers and a tick on the scrubber for each step.
  • Recordings are stored privately, opened through signed links and removed after 90 days.
  • A mate can publish a port from its computer at its own apps.buildberg.app address. Open, copy or unpublish it from chat.
  • Files a mate makes are offered as download cards in the conversation, with previews.
v0.15.0

Skills library and voice input

  • Skills are reusable playbooks: a kebab-case name, a when-to-use description and markdown instructions.
  • Choose which mates have each skill. Mates can also save a skill themselves when they work out a better way.
  • Type / in the composer to pick a skill for the next message.
  • Press the mic to talk: the recording is transcribed into the message box so you can edit it before sending.
v0.14.0

A new look: theme, sidebar and chat

  • A calmer theme: white ground, ink type, hairlines, and one yellow signal that only appears where a mate is working or something needs you. Dark mode follows the same rules.
  • The sidebar lists Home, Inbox with a count of what needs you, and Activity; your mates with a live status line; group chats; the library; and this month's usage.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: ⌘K to search, ⌘. for the panel, ⌘1 to ⌘9 for your first mates, G I for Inbox and G A for Activity.
  • The chat header shows what a mate is doing right now, with Stop while it works. Answers carry a work summary with key steps, time and cost, plus inline email approvals and app cards.
  • The composer records voice, picks skills with /, and turns what you typed into a routine with Repeat on a schedule.
v0.13.0

Routines and the activity log

  • Repeat on a schedule under any message turns it into a routine.
  • Run every hour, day, weekday or week at a set time in your timezone, or write a custom cron.
  • Get an email after every run, only when a run fails, or never. Run now, and the run history dots show what happened.
  • The new Activity page lists every task with its result, steps, time and cost.
v0.12.0

Knowledge from GitHub

  • Connect a repository by owner/repo and branch. Private repos get a deploy key to add on GitHub; until then the source shows Needs key.
  • Each source is mounted read-only at ~/knowledge/<slug> on the mate's computer.
  • Choose per mate which sources it can read. Sync status, last synced time and file count are shown on every source.
  • No repo? Upload a .zip instead.
